Plot -

Chuck Noland (Tom Hanks) is a time-obsessed FedEx systems analyst. He is in a relationship with Kelly Frears (Helen Hunt). Both want to get married, but Chuck's busy schedule is always an obstacle. At home in Memphis, Tennessee for Christmas after returning from a trip to Moscow, Russia, Chuck is called away for work while at a holiday gathering with relatives. As he is about to get on the plane, he gives Kelly a box containing an engagement ring and tells her not to open it until New Year's Eve. Kelly gives Chuck a pocket watch containing a picture of herself. While flying through a violent thunderstorm somewhere over the southern Pacific Ocean, the FedEx jet crashes into the ocean in flames. Saved by an inflatable life-raft, Chuck floats helplessly on the ocean until he is washed up on a deserted island, the lone survivor.

Within a few days, Chuck ascertains that the island is uninhabited and sets out to do what he can to survive. When the body of one of the flight crew washes up on the island, along with several FedEx packages, Chuck buries the pilot and neatly piles away all of the washed up packages. He eventually opens all of the packages (with the single exception of a package adorned with a pair of wings) and tries to find a practical use for whatever is inside. One contains a Wilson volleyball. After receiving a deep wound on his hand, Chuck angrily grabs and throws the volleyball, leaving a bloody hand print on it. Naming the ball "Wilson" after the manufacturer (as well as rubbing out a face on it), he starts to develop a deep-friendship-like dependency to help him cope with the loneliness. Four years later, a dramatically thinner, bearded Chuck is seen expertly tossing a spear into the water, killing a fish. One morning, a large chunk of plastic from a portable toilet washes up on the island. Upon seeing how the wind blew the plastic down after standing it up in the sand, Chuck decides to build a raft, using the plastic as a sail, so that he can escape from the island. Setting out to sea with Wilson, he becomes visibly emotional for managing to leave the island from overcoming the waves which had denied him on previous occasions. Spending days drifting out into the open sea, Wilson falls into the water as Chuck is sleeping and he is unable to save him. All alone on the raft, he is rescued by a passing New Zealand cargo ship.

On returning home, Chuck must come to terms with the fact that everyone he was close to has given him up for dead long ago and moved on with their lives. Kelly has married and had a child with another man, Dr. Jerry Lovett (Chris Noth). Chuck reunites with Kelly and they profess their love for each other, but they both know that Kelly has responsibilities to Jerry and her daughter and say goodbye to each other. He then sets out to deliver the one package he never opened on the island - the one with the angels' wings.

No one is home, so he leaves the package at the front door with an attached note. Stopping at a remote crossroads, a woman in a truck drives up and tries to help him explaining where all the roads from the intersection lead to. As she drives away, noticing the painted angel's wings on the back of her truck, Chuck is seen smiling in the direction of the truck. ( Wikipedia )

Plot - Hilarious documentary on the wildlife of the Namib Desert . (IMDB) his South African film tells about life in these areas in a humorous way. It was directed and written by Jamie Uys of the Uys family. He is most famous for his film The Gods Must Be Crazy.

The film begins in the Namib desert, with the narrator saying: "You'd think nobody could make a living here." But the film proves the opposite and shows the lives of the animals that live there. The narrator concludes: "But to the Oryx and the little creatures of the Namib, this waterless, hostile desert is paradise."

The second third of the film shows the rich life in the Okavango River and Okavango Delta (see Marula, below), and the last third of the film focuses on life in the Kalahari desert. (Wikipedia )

The Ant Bully (2006) Review

Submit your reviews : reviewkid@gmail.com

Genre : Animation

ReviewSky : The animation is awesome . That's the only aspect of this movie i could call awesome . The plot is average . Nice concept but not well executed . And comedy - it was lame. Maybe a couple of jokes were good but the rest of the movie was lame . The movie is about this kid who keeps troubling an ant colony , but now he's shrunk and he's one of them . So now , he's got to live and work with them . Bigger problem is - whether they can forgive him for everything he's done .
On a final note , why watch a comedy movie when it isn't funny . There are many great films out there . Don't waste your time watching this .

ReviewSky : 3 / 5 ( Beecause the animation was nice. Actually : 2 /5 )

Why not 5/5 : Like i said , a comedy is supposed to be funny. This isn't.

If you liked this movie , you'll definitely like : Honey I shrunk the kids ,Toy Story , The incredibles , Cars , and many other great animation films .

Monsters, Inc. (2001 ) Review

Submit your reviews : reviewkid@gmail.com

Genre : Animation

ReviewSky : One of the best animation movies I've ever seen . Also , overall , one of the funniest movies ever . Didn't get dull even for a moment . I didn't even realize how the movie got over so soon . Now , in monster world , there is an acute shortage of power . So the newest , safest , reliable source of power is - Little kids SCREAMS . So, its the job of these monsters to hide in kids closets, scare them and collect power to run the monster city . Sounds like crap ? But , it isn't and once you watch it you'll know why . Also there's an internal rivalry to be "The Monster with the highest No. of Scares " among the monsters . And a little emotion - our hero gets attached to a kid . And the attention to detail is unbelievable . You dont pay attention for 10 seconds , and I promise you you'll miss a great joke . Even the credits that roll at the end is funny . Never a dull moment .And of course , the animation is awesome. Totally , totally , totally deserves the score I'm giving it !

ReviewSky : 5 / 5 !

If you liked this movie , you'll definitely like : Toy Story , The incredibles , Cars , and many other great animation films .

Waterworld (1995) Review

Genre : Science Fiction

About the movie / Plot : In the future , when the polar ice caps have melted , the entire land is covered with water . All the continents have been submerged . Now a few humans survive . And everyone dreams of just one thing - to be back on dry land ! The most expensive film ever - when it was made .

ReviewSky : I really loved the concept . With all the environmentalists going on and on about the polar ice caps melting ( I believe it will happen one day but i hope it wont ) this is a totally neat concept . And no wonder this film was so expensive - everything was done really nicely - imagine the entire movie was shown at sea . The plot is good and i really watched it with great interest right till it got over .

Review Sky : 4 /5

Imdb : 5.6 / 10 ( 16th Feb 09 )

Why not 5/5 : The plot was good but not the best i've seen . A very good film , but definitely not a killer ! And one question - If Kostner could purify his urine and drink it , why not just purify the sea water ?

If you liked this movie , you'll definitely like : I am legend (2007) , etc.

Slumdog Millionaire (2008) Review ( Slumdog Crorepati )

Submit your reviews : reviewkid@gmail.com

Genre : Drama

About the movie / Plot : This movie is based on the book "Q & A" by Q by Vikas Swarup . It shows the harsh life of slum kids in Mumbai , the syndicate that controls the underworld , begging , prostitution , etc . The movie revolves around the lead character Jamal and his brother and their friend . The difuculties they face as slum kids , Hindu Muslim riots , how they are orphaned and how they manage to live their later .The other part of the movie is how Jamal wins a crore on Kaun Banega Crorepati / Who wants to be a millionaire .

Review Sky - I haven't read the book - "Q and A" that this book is actually based on , so i really enjoyed the movie as it is, not comparing it to the book . If you want realism , this film has got just that , but it shows only one side of Mumbai. Fair enough - because its the side that not many know about . Now the way the 2 stories are woven together is fabulous - how he knows the answers to each of the questions he is asked on the show because of his past experiences . the show i'm referring to is Kaun Banega Crorepati / Who wants to be a millionaire . The initial part of the movie is really touching because as kids its really painful to see what they go through . But as they grow older its something thats shown in other movies too . The end of the movie - more like a regular movie . Overall its definitely a great movie to watch and i really enjoyed it .

Review Sky : 4 /5

Imdb : 8.7 / 10 ( 15th Feb 09 , #34 )

Why not 5/5 : Like i said ... Once they grew up , it wasn't so touching . Being from Mumbai , much of it i already knew , so the shock factor wasn't there for me . Towards the end it became a regular hindi film romance .

If you liked this movie , you'll definitely like : Traffic Signal , Monsoon Wedding , Earth etc.
